The Sonos Play 1
With the Sonos Play:1, you can listen to a clear sound in small rooms. This speaker has 2 drivers that produce bass and treble individually. As a result, your music will sound both powerful and clear. Connect more Sonos speakers to each other with WiFi or via the power grid, place them in different rooms and control them with the Sonos app. This lets everyone in your house enjoy your playlists. With playback options via WiFi, internet radio, or integrated streaming services, you’ll never tire of listening to music.
Alexa integration?
If you haven’t heard, Sonos recently launched a brand new speaker with Alexa voice control built-in. Incredible, yes, but what about all of us long-time Sonos loyalists with our Play:1 speakers and Playbars? Don’t worry, Sonos is not leaving us behind. Now your favorite speaker is taking requests…
As of October 4th, if you have an Amazon Echo or Echo Dot, you can wirelessly connect your existing Sonos speakers to Alexa voice assistant devices to use your voice to play and control songs, playlists, radio stations, podcasts, etc. That’s for any Sonos speaker, in any room of your home.
Simply update your Sonos system to Sonos 8.0, turn on the Sonos Skill in your Alexa app, and ask Alexa to find your Sonos devices. Alexa will find your Sonos speakers, wherever they are – and teach them to listen and obey.
Google Assistant?
The process is largely similar if you’ve got a Play:1 or Play:5 that you’d like to control with a Google Home speaker in the same room or anywhere else in your house.
To configure Google Assistant to control your Sonos speakers, follow these steps:
- Open the Sonos app on your mobile device.
- Tap the “More” tab at the bottom right and pick “Voice Services.”
- Choose Google Assistant.
- This time there’s no menu for choosing speakers. You just sign in with your Sonos account credentials inside the Google Assistant app.
- Link all your music services to Google Assistant if you haven’t already and choose which one you prefer to be the default source for song requests.
With a Google Home or Home Mini, you can play and pause music on Sonos, skip tracks, and adjust the volume.
